Overview
Brain aneurysms are abnormal balloon-like outpouchings of blood vessels in the brain. While many remain asymptomatic and are discovered incidentally, some carry a risk of rupture that requires careful assessment and, in selected cases, treatment.
Treatment options for brain aneurysms have expanded considerably with endovascular techniques. Coiling, stent-assisted coiling, and flow diversion can now treat aneurysms that previously required open craniotomy.
Choosing the right approach
Patient selection and multidisciplinary discussion are key. Factors including aneurysm size, location, morphology, and patient health all influence the choice between observation, endovascular treatment, or surgery.
Each case is discussed in a dedicated neurovascular multidisciplinary team meeting to ensure the recommended approach offers the best balance of safety and effectiveness for the individual patient.
